One of our favorite jobs is creating a new vehicle that is a solution to a challenging problem, or that fits particular operating requirements. We have built vehicles for people with limited ranges of motion in their arms and legs; people with balance problems; and specialized wheelchairs. As one of our customers said, "From the first time I rode the Nomad I knew that it was my dream vehicle...but Bill really spent the time with me to set it up for my needs."
Nomad
another chair Our premier trike, the Nomad 3B-28, is built for efficient outdoor riding as well as smooth indoor maneuverability. Its ergonomic pedaling position combines with its 28 speeds and triple braking system to give you a smooth ride, easy acceleration, superior traction, and secure braking power.
In addition, it features a quick-release rear wheel, retractable pedal boom, and front wheels and joysticks that remove with a single Allen wrench. The boom can be retracted to convert the Nomad into an indoor wheelchair; the whole tricycle can be quickly compacted into an easily transportable size that will fit in the trunk of most cars or ship in standard bike boxes. Available options include a hard-shell case, racks, fenders, chain guard, computer, lights, and a safety flag. Standard, off-the-shelf components are used throughout, as with all our bicycles, making servicing your Nomad easy and inexpensive. It costs $2950.

All Nomads have disc brakes as standard equipment as of Febuary 2002

See our section on trikes.

Clip-ons
This is a clip-on to the front of a standard wheelchair that makes it somewhat more road-worthy. It can be built to attach either to a standard wheelchair frame or the non-stock frame shown here.

Shock Absorbing Crutches
In some ways this is one of Special Purpose Vehicles' coolest ideas. Working with the fellow whose lower half you see here, we used a pair of bicycle suspension forks to create these crutches (note the quick-flip height adjusters!). The owner reports that several chronic elbow and neck pains have disappeared since he started using these. We are currently developing tips for a variety of ground conditions. someone on crutches

Folding Adult Running Chair
Folding Adult Running Chair This running chair was built for an adult with limited mobility. It is designed for the wide variety of terrains found when jogging and can go many places a conventional wheelchair cannot. Despite it's fitting a full sized adult it can fold down for easy transport and storage.
It is shown here before being painted to the customers specification.
This is the running chair folded for storage. It weighs under 30 lbs. and can easily carry a large adult. It will fit in almost any car as well as in a modest sized closet. adult running chair, folded
